India to make world’s largest solar telescope
India is likely to begin construction of the world’s largest solar telescope on the foothills of the Himalayas in Ladakh to understand the fundamental processes taking place on the Sun by year-end.A 2-metre class, state-of-the-art National Large Solar Telescope (NLST), built by Bangalore-based Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), will permit Indian scientists to carry out cutting edge research aimed to study Sun’s atmosphere.

US Congress ‘officially’ confirms Obama as President
On 5th January 2013 Barack Obama was officially declared winner of November 6 US presidential elections. A joint session of the Congress tallied and certified votes of the electoral colleges.This was the formal culmination of the presidential election process.While incumbent Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden received 332 Electoral College votes, Republican candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan received 206 votes.Obama took the oath of office on two days i.e. 20th and 21st of January.

Brisbane International title for Sania Mirza and Bethanie Mattek
Sania Mirza and her partner Bethanie Mattek lifted the WTA Brisbane International trophy with a come-from-behind win against Kveta Peschke and Anna-Lena Groenefeld on 5th January 2013.It was Sania’s first doubles title in the year 2013 while 15th of her career.

Freedom fighter and Ex MLA Nadimpalli Ramabhadra Raju passed away at Kodurupalem under Allavaram mandal of Kakinada on 5th January 2013.He was elected as MLA on Praja Party ticket.

PA Sangma launches National People’s Party
PA Sangma, who broke away with the NCP in 2012 to contest the presidential elections, though unsuccessfully, on 05 January 2013 launched National People’s Party (NPP), and chosen a book as its symbol. Sangma has chosen to align his party with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
